kids dental educationEvery April to celebrate Dental Health Month myself and my staff go out into the community as well as offer in-office school tours to help educate kids about oral health.

Kids are an important part of our dental practice here at Steveston Smiles and we are passionate about educating kids and their parents about proper oral care. We want the kids in our community to have strong healthy teeth and mouths for a lifetime.

Our in office tours were done for the Steveston Community Centre pre-school program. Our in office tours are an opportunity for both the kids and their parents to come and checkout our office in person. The kids visit each treatment room and shown a different aspect of oral health, for example, brushing, flossing, or healthy and unhealthy snacks. For the older children we also show them our intra-oral camera and what dental x-rays are all about.

This year I went out into the community and visited Little Maples, Renaissance Kids, Cefa, Gingerbread House, Cherry Blossom, dental office tourLittle Friends and Anderson school. During our community talks the kids get to meet Doggie and learn how to brush and floss his teeth just like their own. I talked about healthy and unhealthy snacks, sugar bugs and cavities using our magnetic tooth board and I even show them what a cavity looks like using our giant dinosaur tooth.

Every child that either comes in office for a tour or sees us at their school or pre-school gets a goodie bag to take home.

In total we saw 320 kids and hopefully helped improve their oral health. If your school

or pre-school is interested in a tour in April 2015 contact us in January as we book in advance. You can reach us by phone at 604-277-1131 or email info@stevestonsmiles.com.
