Every April at Steveston Smiles we celebrate Oral Health Month by going out into the community to educate kids about oral health with out famous Tooth Talks.
Kids are important to us and we are passionate about educating kids and their parents about proper oral care. We want the kids in our community to have strong healthy teeth and mouths for a lifetime.
Countless studies have shown that children pick up their oral habits early and that they are hard to break. The goal of our tooth talks is for children to know the importance of oral care and help set them up for a lifetime of good oral health. I am surprised every year as to how many kids do not know about floss, brush without help from an adult, or have not yet been to visit the Dentist.
This year we gave tooth talks at Steveston Community Centre ‘s Rainbows and Unicorns, Dinomites, Little Maples, Renaissance Kids, CEFA, Cherry Blossom, and Anderson schools. During our community talks the kids met Doggie and learnt how to brush and floss his teeth just like their own. We talked about healthy and unhealthy snacks, sugar bugs and cavities using our magnetic tooth board and we also showed them what a cavity looks like using our giant dinosaur tooth. Every child received a goodie bag to take home. In total we saw 297 kids and hopefully helped improve their oral health.
