Farewell Dr. David Yuen

Dr. David Yuen is moving to the UK and we are going to miss him!

Dr. David’s husband has been transferred for his job to the UK and Dr. David is moving to join him there. Dr. David has been an amazing addition to Steveston Smiles and we were hoping he would stay forever but unfortunately for us; life sometimes has other plans.

Dr. David is welcome back at Steveston Smiles whenever his adventure brings him back. You may even see him in-office working while covering vacation or when he is in town. Dr. David will be leaving mid-September 2023.

Welcome Dr. Casi Sutherland

Dr. Casi Sutherland will be joining Steveston Smiles Mondays, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays on August 21, 2023.

Dr. Casi grew up in a small town in Nova Scotia. Ready for something busier, she moved to Toronto to complete her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Following dental school, Dr. Casi continued West to Vancouver to complete a one year General Practice Residency with UBC.

During her residency, she had the opportunity to treat complex cases through various rotations at VGH, UBC Hospital, long term care homes, BC Cancer and BC Children’s Hospital. In addition to working at Steveston Smiles Dr. Casi will also be working as a staff dentist with the UBC Geriatric Program. She looks forward to building trusting relationships with her patients and providing the best care available.

Outside of work, Casi enjoys spending time with her friends and family. Being new to the West Coast, she is often in the mountains, whether it is a ski day or hiking and camping.

Does Snoring Affect Your Sleep?

Introducing Solea Sleep at Steveston Smiles. Dr. Michele Nielsen is now trained in Solea® Sleep.

What is Solea Sleep?

Solea® Sleep reduces or eliminates snoring by tightening tissue in the soft palate and reducing vibrations that cause snoring. Unlike surgical procedures that require incisions, stitches, and long recoveries, Solea® Sleep is a nonsurgical laser treatment that takes only a few minutes with no recovery time and immediate relief. Enjoy a better night’s sleep for you and your partner.

What Causes Snoring?

The primary source of snoring is the vibration that can occur when air flows past relaxed tissues in the soft palate. These tissues can become even more relaxed with age or weight gain.

How Serious is Snoring?

Snoring is often a symptom of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a serious condition that can be life threatening. Solea® Sleep is a treatment for snoring only. Due to the high correlation between snoring and OSA, a sleep study screening done by a Physician is required for every patient prior to being treated for snoring with Solea® Sleep. Treatment can still be done for patients who snore but it is not a treatment for OSA.
